Scotia, California

Built in 1923–24 as the Mowatoc Hotel to house workers and visitors in the Pacific Lumber Company's company town, this redwood hotel took the name Scotia Inn in the late 1940s. It was sold in 2021 and reopened after renovation as the Scotia Lodge, near the northern entrance to the Avenue of the Giants. Staff have long spoken of a friendly spirit they call Frank on the top floor, blamed for footsteps and voices in empty rooms, and a baby's crying has been reported elsewhere in the building. Another story, of a little girl who fell from a balcony while chasing a ball and whose mother is said to haunt the room above it, has no record behind it.
Operates as a working hotel open to guests.
