Founded in 1925 around the natural mineral springs the Tocobaga people fished and bathed in for centuries before European contact — later dubbed Espiritu Santo Springs by Spanish explorers — Safety Harbor Resort and Spa remains an active resort and spa on 22 acres of Tampa Bay waterfront. During a renovation in the mid-1990s, the front desk repeatedly received phone calls from guest rooms that were completely empty; when security investigated, they reported hearing voices in a building with no one in it. Housekeepers have also described hearing their names called from the women's bath area with no one else present.
Operating resort and day spa with restaurants and bars open to the public. Rooms and pools are for guests.
