Rosewell was among the grandest houses of colonial Virginia, built by Mann Page in the early 1700s on the York River, and it was destroyed by fire in 1916. Four tall chimneys, a wall and a vaulted cellar remain, stabilized and run by the Fairfield Foundation, which also tells the stories of the people enslaved here. Its October ghost tours share legends of a scarlet lady and a boy who lights the doorway at night, and local accounts also mention phantom music from the chimneys.
Open seasonally Friday through Sunday (free admission in the 2026 season); October ghost tours are limited and need advance tickets, so check the Fairfield Foundation.
