Louisiana's Old State Capitol is the Gothic castle-style building on the Mississippi riverfront in downtown Baton Rouge, now a museum of political history. Louisiana's state tourism site tells of Pierre Couvillon, a legislator from Avoyelles Parish who is said to have died of a heart attack in the chambers after a speech about corrupt politicians. Large footprints are reported to appear on the Senate floor, and security guards describe taps on the shoulder and a sense of invisible movement, though no video has captured it. The museum also presents The Ghost of the Castle, a theatrical show narrated by the ghost of Civil War diarist Sarah Morgan, which is a performance rather than a haunting report. The building is staffed and open to the public.
State museum open Tuesday through Friday 10 am to 4 pm and Saturday 9 am to 3 pm, closed Sunday and Monday. Admission is free; The Ghost of the Castle show costs about $3.
