Built in 1964 as the Downtowner Motor Lodge and later operated as a Ramada Inn before SCAD acquired it as a dormitory, Oglethorpe House has one of the most persistent haunted reputations of any SCAD residence hall. Legend holds that a female student once jumped to her death near room 600 or 601, and the area is now enclosed in Plexiglas; residents report screams in the night, unexplained shadows, and the sound of high heels clicking down empty hallways, especially on the sixth floor. In room 416, students report a stool scraping across the floor above them and the sound of a marble dropping and rolling with no one there, and rooms throughout the building report faucets turning on by themselves and whispers heard while trying to sleep.
