Nemacolin Castle in Brownsville began in 1789 as a trading post on the National Road and grew into a 22-room castle for the Bowman family, the only family ever to live there. Tour guides tell of a maid who fell down the tower stairs and is said to still haunt the castle, along with other reported sightings. The castle offers regular historic tours and, in the fall, ghost tours.
Open for guided tours on weekends from May through October, with evening ghost tours on Friday through Sunday in the fall; check the castle.
