The grand Mount Washington Hotel at Bretton Woods opened in 1902 and was named the most haunted place in New Hampshire by Thrillist. Its ghost is Carolyn Stickney, widow of the hotel's founder, Joseph Stickney, who died in 1903. Guests and staff describe a hazy figure in photographs, voices, and a woman in Victorian dress descending the stairs for dinner. Room 314, said to be her favorite, is where guests report waking to find a woman at the foot of the bed brushing her hair. Another account from the same hotel describes a malevolent woman in Room 206.
Operating resort hotel with dining, spa and golf; the best way to experience it is an overnight stay or a meal.
