Minnie Quay was a young woman from the Lake Huron port village of Forestville who, according to local tradition, died in 1876 at about seventeen after her parents forbade her from seeing a sailor she loved. She is buried in the nearby Forester cemetery. Her story is one of the best-known ghost legends of Michigan's Thumb, and people say a woman is seen walking the shore and the pier where she is said to have walked into the water. Stories of her spirit are told with sympathy for a young woman's heartbreak, and the cemetery is an active burial ground.
A public township cemetery open during the day. Please be respectful of the graves and the families who visit them.
