McRaven is one of the oldest houses in Vicksburg, built in stages from 1797 and added to in the 1830s and 1849. During the 1863 siege it served as a Confederate field hospital and survived shelling from both sides. It has been called the most haunted house in Mississippi, was restored and opened for tours in 1961, and was featured in Ghost Adventures' 2018 Vicksburg episodes on the Travel Channel. The most-reported spirit is Mary Elizabeth Howard, who died in childbirth upstairs in 1836, and reports also mention Confederate soldiers buried on the grounds. The house is open for daytime tours and ghost tours.
