The Majestic Theatre, opened in 1929 in downtown San Antonio, is an atmospheric movie palace designed by John Eberson, with a ceiling of twinkling stars and, in its day, the first full air-conditioning of any Texas theater. San Antonio ghost lore holds that a woman called Magdalene watches from the second level, that a ballet troupe still practices on stage, and that a staff member called Ethel causes backstage electrical glitches. The ballet story has no known record behind it, and all the accounts are theater lore.
