Loyd Hall Plantation near Cheneyville was built around 1820 by William Loyd, who was hanged by Union soldiers in 1864 on suspicion of acting as a double spy. Today it is a bed and breakfast on a working farm of several hundred acres, with tours of the house that include its ghost stories. Louisiana's state tourism site, citing the plantation, tells of the spirit of the original owner ringing doorbells and moving tableware, a Union deserter found in the attic, and a violin heard on full-moon nights. Guests have also reported cooking smells at odd hours.
Working bed and breakfast with a main house and cottage, open to overnight guests; tours of the house are available to guests, so call ahead for visits.
