Jeffrey City was a uranium boom town built from 1957 for mine workers, with a high school and swimming pool, and it shrank to 58 people by 2010 after the uranium market collapsed. Its modern architecture, schools, church and workers' quarters make it unlike log-and-stone ghost towns. Some people still live there, and old mine workings nearby are dangerous.
Beside US-287; stay out of fenced and occupied properties and out of the mines.
