The Hotel Alex Johnson, opened in 1928 by Chrysler executive Alex Johnson in downtown Rapid City, is a Tudor-style hotel with Lakota art and symbols in its lobby. Travel South Dakota and local news lists it among the state's most haunted hotels: a Lady in White is said to haunt Room 812, opening windows and moving dresser drawers; a young girl knocks on doors; and Alex Johnson himself is said to check on the hotel's operations. Hotel staff have also reported poltergeist activity on the top floor.
Working hotel with a restaurant and bar; the lobby is open to visitors.
