La Loma de Los Vientos — "Hill of the Winds" — was completed in 1927 for the silent-film star William S. Hart: a 10,000-square-foot Spanish Colonial Revival house on the ridge above Newhall. Hart moved in with his younger sister Mary Ellen, who helped manage his career, and the two of them are the only people ever to have lived there. Hart died in 1946 at eighty-one and left the property to the public, and it opened as a museum and park; the mansion stands alongside the Ranch House, Bunk House, Pool House and Mary Ellen's Tea Room. Docents and staff report Hart himself most often — said to appear to people he recognises and likes — along with Mary Ellen, their nurse, and Hart's dogs. The smell of coffee is noticed throughout the house.
Located within William S. Hart Park; the museum is open to the public on a set schedule — check posted hours before visiting.
