Founded in 1836 on an acre donated by William Heal, Olive Branch Cemetery — Washington Township's first cemetery, named for Heal's wife Olive — holds its first burial, John Watson, from 1837 and roughly 500 graves today, on a dead-end road bordering Grant and Delaware counties. Local tradition ties the cemetery to the abandoned town once known as Elizabeth Town nearby, where a woman dressed in solid black is said to be seen staring at passersby near the old town sign; visitors to the cemetery itself report strange noises and ghostly shadows.
Washington Township's first cemetery, on a remote county road. Visit in daylight and treat the graves with respect.
