Built in 1928-29 during a wave of national fascination with ancient Egypt following the 1922 discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, the Egyptian Theatre is a fully restored Art Deco movie palace still in operation today. Staff and visitors report as many as six distinct presences in the building: objects moving on their own, doors opening with no one there, unexplained footsteps echoing across the empty stage, and visitors describing an unmistakable tap on the shoulder when no one is standing nearby. The theater now offers flashlight tours and hosts private paranormal investigations exploring its reported haunted history.
Working theater in downtown DeKalb, showing concerts and films. You can see it by buying tickets; it also hosts seasonal flashlight tours, so check the theater's schedule.
