St. Charles Hall is the oldest building on the Carroll College campus in Helena, begun in 1909 with a cornerstone laid by President William Howard Taft. Campus legend centers on the fourth-floor men's bathroom. According to the story, a student blacked out there in 1964, struck his head on a sink and died of complications a few weeks later. Students afterward told of seeing a young man with a head wound standing behind them in the mirror and of blood running from the faucet instead of water. The tale is campus folklore passed down among students, and it has been retold in Montana newspapers as one of the state's best-known college ghost stories.
St. Charles Hall is a working residence hall and is not open to the public. The campus grounds can be walked, and the building is easily viewed from outside. Please respect students' privacy.
