The Westerly Memorial and Public Library opened in 1894, a Richardson Romanesque building paid for by the local philanthropist Stephen Wilcox and set beside Wilcox Park. Staff describe a friendly ghostly helper, thought to be a former librarian, who tidies stacks of paper, pushes chairs in to tables and puts pen caps where they belong. Local stories also say the park served as a makeshift morgue after the 1938 hurricane that killed many in the region, and that the grounds have felt uneasy since. The library was featured on Ghost Hunters in season 11, runs its own ghost-hunting events at Halloween, and is a regular stop on Westerly ghost tours.
A public library and park in downtown Westerly, open regular hours; check the library's website for current hours. Wilcox Park is open to walk through during the day.
