This house on Meriden Avenue, formerly the Hallahan Funeral Home, became nationally known after the Snedeker family moved in in 1986 to be near a hospital treating their son's cancer. The family reported apparitions and physical sensations they attributed to spirits, and in 1988 had an exorcism performed after Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated; a subsequent investigation into the house's past reported that a former funeral home employee had been convicted of a crime involving the bodies in his care. The story became the 1992 book "In a Dark Place" and the 2009 horror film "The Haunting in Connecticut" — though the book's own author later publicly distanced himself from the accuracy of what he'd written.
