The Skyline Lodge was built in 1945 in Platoro, a mining town in the San Juan Mountains founded in the 1880s to supply local gold and silver camps. One of its reported spirits is known as Little Eva, a sixteen-year-old said to have been shot by a miner's wife; her unmarked grave lies on private property near the lodge. A second, known as Henry, is said to be a hunter who died of a heart attack there in the 1950s. Staff and guests describe shadows passing behind them when alone, dishes thrown from shelves, doors locking on their own, persistent cold spots, furniture sounds from empty upper floors, and the lobby fireplace lighting and going out unassisted.
Remote lodge on the Conejos River with cabins and a restaurant. It is open only from late May to late September, and the road in is not plowed in winter.
