The Pardee Home is an Italianate villa built in 1868 and 1869 for Enoch Pardee and the home of three generations of his family, including his son George Pardee, an Oakland mayor who became governor of California from 1903 to 1907 and led the state's response to the 1906 earthquake. Much of it is kept as Mrs. Pardee left it when she died in 1952, and it is now a museum.
The museum has hosted ghost investigations. The investigator Karen Zimmerman, who led one such evening, has recorded several electronic voice phenomena at the house, and photographs taken on the property have reportedly shown orbs.
Guided home tours are held on the second and third Saturdays of each month, with occasional special events; check pardeehome.org or call 510-444-2187.
