James Hornibrook, a saloon keeper, finished this Queen Anne mansion in the Quapaw Quarter in 1888, with a tower, stained glass and a double staircase. He died about two years after moving in. The house later served as a girls' school, a women's college and a nursing home before it was restored in the 1990s as a bed and breakfast, now the Empress of Little Rock. Guests and staff describe a well-dressed man watching from the top of the staircase, taken to be Hornibrook, along with a woman in pink and a figure some describe as dressed like a sea captain.
