This Gothic graystone building at Dearborn and Ontario dates to the late 1800s and originally housed the Chicago Historical Society; during the 1915 Eastland Disaster, when the capsized excursion ship killed hundreds in the Chicago River, the building was reportedly used as a makeshift morgue. It later became part of a nightclub complex, with the Dome Room considered its most haunted space. Staff have reported drinks pushed off tables, glasses found shattered with no motion ever detected, candles lighting on their own, and crying heard from empty restrooms — some of it blamed on the ghost of a mischievous little girl said to shove people down the stairs.
The nightclub that occupied this former Chicago Historical Society building has closed, and the building is not open to the public. The 1892 exterior can be seen from the sidewalk at Dearborn and Ontario.
