Rose Hill Manor in Frederick was built in the 1790s as the retirement home of Thomas Johnson, Maryland's first elected governor and a U.S. Supreme Court justice, and is now a county park and children's museum. The museum offers Ghost Tales tours on Saturday evenings in October, led by costumed interpreters who tell ghost stories tied to the house, the region and the nineteenth century. The tours have recalled Johnson's death on October 26, 1819, with period mourning customs such as stopped clocks and covered mirrors, and have visited Mount Olivet Cemetery where he is buried.
County park with a museum and historic house; Ghost Tales tours run on October Saturday evenings (about $5, pre-registration at 301-600-1650). Check the museum's site for 2026 dates.
