The Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm occupies a house the inn dates to 1793, built for Colonel Joseph Marsh, Vermont's first lieutenant governor, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Travel writers say the spirit of Jane Porter, who with her husband John bought the house in 1845, is said to whisper or whistle and appear in the dining room, and a playful presence called Patrick Marsh moves luggage and lights. The inn does not promote the stories, and some guests report quiet stays, so the tales are best read as local lore.
Working inn with a tavern and dining room; the public rooms are open to guests and visitors.
