The Peabody Institute Library of Danvers is a public library whose own website keeps a category of paranormal stories among its local history pages. The best-known tale places the ghost of an elderly man in the third-floor research area, where he is said to shush people who are being too loud. Danvers was home to some of the accused during the 1692 Salem witch trials, which helps explain the town's interest in its own ghost lore. The reports come from staff and patrons, and the library welcomes visitors during its opening hours.
