Nevada City is a restored gold-rush town on Highway 287 near Virginia City, owned by the State of Montana and managed by the Montana Heritage Commission, with dozens of historic buildings moved here from across the state. The Nevada City Hotel combines the log front of an 1860s stage stop with guest rooms from a circa 1912 dormitory relocated from Yellowstone's Canyon Hotel. Distinctly Montana notes odd incidents reported by guests, including a film crew in February 2001 who said the floor of the unheated saloon creaked slowly and deliberately throughout a shoot and that the sound was captured on tape. Staff at the nearby Sedman House have reported bedding found rumpled and a visitor who saw a little girl in Victorian dress in the yard when no child was there.
Open in the summer season with lodging and cabins; check the Heritage Commission or the lodging site for dates. Nevada City is about a mile and a half west of Virginia City. The map pin marks the town.
