Mercur was a mining town in the Oquirrh Mountains, first for silver, then for mercury and cinnabar, and finally for gold after a cyanide process arrived; it held several thousand people before a 1902 fire and the last mine closed by 1913. Today almost nothing remains but the cemetery, which some websites call a paranormal hot spot, though these claims are unsubstantiated.
Little remains; check land status and road access before heading out, and respect the cemetery.
