Lily Dale is a gated spiritualist community in Chautauqua County, founded in 1879 and known worldwide for its resident mediums, healers and summer lectures. Its Assembly Hall and Inspiration Stump are among the places visitors report feeling presences, and haunted-places lists describe a bearded man in Victorian dress with glasses seen in the Assembly Hall. The Maplewood Hotel, built in 1880, is said to be haunted by a maid on the third floor. For a community that sets out to speak with the dead, ghost stories are an ordinary part of life here.
Open to visitors during the summer season with a daily gate fee, offering readings, workshops and tours; the grounds are mostly closed in the off season. Check the Lily Dale Assembly for dates.
