The Hiwan Homestead, built beginning in the 1870s as a mountain retreat, is now run as a museum by the Jefferson County Historical Society. Staff describe being addressed by name in what is known as the Spinning Room, a full-length apparition in a nightgown, footsteps and a rocking sound from a locked, unused room above the study, and unexplained shapes appearing in photographs.
Museum run by Jefferson County Open Space. Open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4:30.
