Hanover Tavern in Hanover County has stood in some form since 1733 and in its present building since 1791, and Patrick Henry married the proprietor's daughter here. It is run by the Hanover Tavern Foundation, which also hosts a theater and fundraising ghost tours led by Transcend Paranormal. Staff and diners tell of shadows crossing the restaurant and of a young girl heard laughing in the theater, for whom actors left toys backstage.
