Fort Mifflin, on the Delaware River in south Philadelphia, was begun in 1771 and withstood a British siege in 1777; it later held Confederate prisoners and Union soldiers in the Civil War and is now a National Historic Landmark museum. Ghost Hunters investigated the fort, and Philadelphia ghost lists describe the Screaming Woman in the ruins of the commandant's house, a Confederate soldier in the casemates and a faceless soldier said to sew in the casemates.
Open to the public on a seasonal schedule, with evening ghost tours and paranormal events on select dates; check the fort's site.
