Fort Casey on Whidbey Island's Admiralty Head was built in the 1890s as one of the coast artillery forts guarding Puget Sound and is now a state park with gun batteries and a lighthouse. The best-known legend, told in local radio and press, is of a worker said to be encased in wet concrete in the old switchboard building, and the stories are described as legend, not fact. Each October volunteers run a haunted-fort event, and Seattle Met lists the batteries among the area's ghost-tour stops.
State park open daily (a Discover Pass is needed for parking); the October haunted-fort event is run by the Keepers of Admiralty Head Lighthouse.
