Elkmont began as a logging camp of the Little River Lumber Company and became a summer resort of private cabins and clubhouses for wealthy families, including the Wonderland Hotel and the Appalachian Club. The national park's lifetime leases expired in 1992 and the cabins were gradually abandoned, though the Park Service kept 19 and restored several, notably at Daisy Town. Firefly season there is a major draw and requires advance passes.
Walkable historic area off TN-72; stay out of collapsing buildings, and check NPS rules for firefly passes.
