Built in 1754, this is often cited as Connecticut's oldest operating inn. Guests and staff report the presence of a spirit locally called "Betty," possibly a 19th-century resident named Elizabeth Powers, most often described in Room 16 or wandering the older hallways. Room 1 served as a temporary morgue during a past epidemic and carries its own reputation for cold spots and unexplained footsteps, alongside general reports of colonial-dressed apparitions and objects moving on their own throughout the inn's oldest sections.
The building is now the 1754 House, an operating inn and restaurant under new owners since 2020. It is open to guests and diners; the Curtis House name is no longer used.
