The Captain Lord Mansion in Kennebunkport was built in 1812 by shipbuilder Captain Nathaniel Lord, who died in 1815 at thirty-nine, leaving his wife Phoebe to raise their nine children there; the house stayed in the Lord family until 1972. After a stint as a boarding house for elderly women it became an inn in 1978 and is now part of the Kennebunkport Captains Collection of historic inns. House Magazine called it Maine's most haunted home. Guests and staff describe Phoebe in a flowing white nightgown, seen on the spiral staircase to the cupola and watching from the Lincoln Room. The inn is a working business.
Working historic inn open to overnight guests; reserve through the inn or the Kennebunkport Captains Collection. The Lincoln Room is the room most tied to the story.
