Candelaria was a silver camp of up to about 3,000 people whose lack of water had to be solved by hauling it in by rail, and the dry-milling dust sickened workers. The post office closed between 1935 and 1939, leaving a Wells Fargo building shell, stone storefronts, miners' cabins, a bank front and a well-preserved cemetery beside an active mine.
Free; about 6 miles off US-95 on a graded road. There are no services, so bring supplies.
