Branford Supply Pond Park covers 350 wooded acres around a former water-supply reservoir. Visitors on its trails have long reported what sounds like gunshots and screaming coming from deeper in the woods, along with the sound of someone running and gasping for breath — noises that stop as soon as anyone turns to look for their source. No documented historical event has ever been tied to the reports.
Part of the Supply Ponds Preserve, a land-trust preserve with public hiking trails. It is open during daylight hours (plus an hour either side). Stay on marked trails and follow the preserve's posted rules.
